More About the Wild Coast Sun Golf Course
The Wild Coast Sun Country Club, owned by the Sun International Leisure Group, is a popular vacation destination located on the edge of the Eastern Cape, near Port Edward, overlooking the Indian Ocean. The course is set within a 1,800-acre estate and features challenging fairways that rise, fall, twist and turn throughout its 6,400-yard length, with especially challenging holes at the six par three holes.
The course is designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr, who has used his imagination to create a challenging layout spread over an extensive area, making a golf cart advisable. The par five 12th hole, “Green Mamba,” is considered one of the best 18 holes in South Africa, featuring an elevated tee shot towards a cascading waterfall and a funicular railway to transport players to the next tee. The 12th hole alone is worth the drive to the course.
The course has also been featured in the book “500 World’s Greatest Golf Holes” by George Peper and GOLF Magazine for its 146-yard par three 13th hole, which can be affected by fickle winds and features various hazards such as a rear bunker and knotted vegetation.
