One of the must-see attractions for adventure seekers is the Hopewell MTB Trails, located just 15 minutes south of Port Elizabeth, and 10 minutes from the Baywest Mall.

The Hopewell Conservation Estate is a fenced wilderness area in the Eastern Cape, that offers trail options for mountain bikers and trail runners, allowing them to get close to nature in amongst fynbos, kloofs, bushveld, and wild game. The trails cater to riders of all levels, from beginner to advanced, and feature purpose-built single track, over varied terrain that includes a number of climbs. The best time to visit the trails is during summer, when they are open Friday to Sunday between 16h00 and 18h00.

There are currently three trail options available at Hopewell: a 12 km social ride, a 35 km intermediate ride, and a 50 km advanced and technical ride. Hopewell is still in development and these options may expand over time.

After a day of adventure, visitors can refuel at Hopewell’s Restaurant, which offers good food and is open between 07h00 and 15h00. The estate also offers a kiddies’ trail, a jungle gym play area, and birthday party options for families. Visitors are required to pay a conservation fee at the gate.

It’s worth waking up early to get here when the farmers arrive and put their produce on display. Visitors can also savor a variety of local delicacies, freshly-baked breads, hearty pies, decadent pancakes and a host of other treats. Hearty breakfasts and steaming hot cups of coffee are a must. Visitors can also buy a picnic lunch here and enjoy it against the backdrop of the Lady’s Slipper Mountain.

The market offers ample parking and, although it is technically out of town, it is still only a short drive from most of Port Elizabeth’s malls and neighborhoods. The beachfront and its gorgeous beaches are about 40 minutes away, while Greenacres Shopping Centre is only about 15 to 20 minutes from the market.
