The reserve forms part of the larger New Germany Commonage, which was once a farm known as Clermont back in 1948. One of the highlights of the reserve is the bird hide, where visitors can overlook the dam and spot a variety of birds. Rumor has it that there is a resident crocodile in the area, adding to the excitement of the experience. Picnic sites are also available for visitors to enjoy.
