New Germany Nature Reserve is a hidden gem located just twenty minutes away from the bustling city of Durban. Nestled on Mountain Ridge Road (which becomes Methven Road) in the suburbs of New Germany, the reserve offers visitors the unique opportunity to experience wildlife on their doorstep.

The reserve forms part of the larger New Germany Commonage, which was once a farm known as Clermont back in 1948. The forest is filled with robins and flycatchers, and the flowers attract numerous sunbirds.

One of the highlights of the reserve is the bird hide, where visitors can overlook the dam and spot a variety of birds. Rumor has it that there is a resident crocodile in the area, adding to the excitement of the experience. Picnic sites are also available for visitors to enjoy.
